How to not get on my good side…
I’m a man who doesn’t ask for a lot in terms of advance notice. I don’t frequently plan out in detail what I’m going to do and how I’m going to do it, though I doubt you could find anyone who would call me overly impulsive. Nonetheless, when I have a lot of things going on, I do require some premature warning of a new obligation to allow me to organize my time.
A good example of a way to avoid giving advance notice would be to make a change to a class syllabus on Tuesday that creates a new assignment due on Thursday of that same week. The new assignment might involve being co-responsible with another classmate for reporting on a case from a foreign country, and teaching the class about the case, its meaning, and its implications during the Thursday class. Oh, and an added cherry would be if this hard-to-understand foreign case was one hundred thirty pages long.
Now that’s a great thing to do.
